LIFE COACH BY EXAMPLE

AJ Johnson
Founder of the AJ Zone Inc.
Chicago, IL

Story: Amira Kidd

Graduating magna cum laude with degrees in psychology and chemistry, AJ Johnson walked off that stage with more on her mind than achieving academic success. Deciding to move to LA instead of going to med school, Johnson landed her first acting gig and never looked back. Add producer, motivational speaker, and life coach to the list and you have a person worth talking about. Life coach to Kelly Rowland, Stevie Wonder and Gabrielle Union, AJ Johnson shows us what it’s like to be a part of her zone.

With a degree in psychology and chemistry, how did you become a life coach? I had an artistic side of me that I had to just let out, so I decided to try acting. Just like as an actress, as much as I enjoyed my place in the industry I was missing that science part of me, so I sort of mixed science and Hollywood by being a life coach.

What are a life coach’s responsibilities? A life coach gives guidance to someone trying to better their life. But what is different about me is that I’m a life coach that teaches by example. Others may be life coaches, but their hair, body, and face look a mess. So I know when I’m coming to someone, my hair is long, skin is clear, and I’m drinking enough water to make my skin glow. You can’t give to others what your missing.

How did The AJ Zone, Inc. get started? I would be relaxing between sets on some films, and people like Julia Roberts would ask me what is that nasty green drink you are drinking, because whatever it is, I need some.

I want to be a part of your zone. What services would be available to me and why? That would be anything and everything that makes you live your life healthy. We customize lifestyle programs to suit the individual. Some people need to gain weight; others need to lose it, while some people have health issues.

You created a wellness sequence on WE channel’s Savvy. How are you looking to draw in clients? First, I educate from a standpoint of where I have been. I have been overweight and didn’t feel good in the clothes I was wearing. I had to find my own formula for getting happy just like anyone else. On the show we don’t just talk to the television; we have conversations with those who tune into us.

How do you feel about obesity in America? Through my voice you should see the passion I have for keeping healthy. That’s why I have not been in any films for at least seven years now. I want to help my people understand that this is an epidemic, but one that is fixable. We have to make sure to tell people not to give up.

Why have you decided to help more than just celebrities? Most people out there are just ten pounds away from illness. This could keep you from getting health insurance under some policies. I have information that I know most people don’t know about, and if I didn’t share it, I wouldn’t be able to sleep at night.
